Switching Energy Suppliers

Lower Your Energy Bills

Switch energy suppliers for a better deal

Switching energy suppliers regularly is important as currently two out of three people are being overcharged for their energy. According to research by Energy Switch Guarantee, only half (48%) of people have switched energy providers in the past four years. All you need is your postcode and an energy bill to help answer a few questions about how and when you use gas and electricity. If you don’t have a recent bill to hand, you can still run an price comparison based on the size and type of house you live in.

Millions of people switch energy suppliers every year, but they’re still appears to be a misconception among some that switching is a massive hassle that involves difficult processes, long waits for installation, and additional fees – this couldn’t actually be further from the truth.

How to switch energy suppliers

By making use of our energy switching service, you’ll be able to switch your energy to a cheaper tariff in minutes. Here’s what you need to do to start switching energy suppliers:

  1. Tell us your location and what your average energy usage is.
  2. We’ll compare hundreds of providers to find the best deals.
  3. Select the supplier that’s best for you and start your switch today.

When is the best time to switch energy suppliers?

You can switch energy suppliers whenever you like. However, you may be charged an exit fee (which can be up to £30 per fuel) if you are on a fixed-term deal, that is if the amount you pay for your energy is fixed for a certain length of time (usually a year). Some suppliers won’t charge you an exit fee, although you may be charged more for your energy as a result.

You will not be charged an exit fee in the last 7 weeks (49 days) of your deal. Plus, your energy company is obliged to notify you that your fixed-term deal is coming to an end. This is the best time to look for a new deal and avoid an exit fee.

How does the energy switching process work?

Once you’ve decided who your next energy provider is going to be, you simply need to click on the deal and confirm your choice. Switch My Energy will get to work right away to ensure the energy switching process is started promptly. You’ll have a 14-day cooling-off period, just in case you change your mind, and most are completed within 2-3 weeks, so it won’t take long until you see a saving on your bills.

Can anyone switch energy suppliers?

If you’re responsible for paying your energy bills, you can compare and switch energy suppliers in minutes. However, there are different contracts and different types of tariffs for domestic energy customers (households) and business energy customers.

If you’re currently tied into a fixed rate deal, there may be an exit fee if you wish to leave the contract early. However, many people choose to switch to a new tariff or energy supplier as one deal ends, as this is often the most cost-effective option.

I switched energy before can I switch again?

It’s worth remembering that what was once the best deal may not always remain the best deal. You might think that because you searched for a great price once before then you’re on to a good thing. Well, that’s not always the case. Wholesale prices for energy can change and so the great price you once had might not be so competitive today.

Here at Switch My Energy, we recommend taking a couple of minutes to use our energy switching service, even if you think you’re already saving money, as you never know how much your current tariff could be overcharging you. It’s as easy to change a second, third or tenth time as it was the first – it’s a no-hassle and fuss-free process.

Will my services be interrupted during the switching process?

No. Regardless of what supplier you’re with, your supply will be the same as before. All that changes is the company that bills you and the price you pay for your energy. There won’t be any interruption to your supply during the energy switching process, and nobody will need to visit your home unless you have opted to have a smart meter installed.
